About Us

Our Vision & Mission

Vision: A Bolivia where people with disabilities and those affected by incarceration have equal economic opportunity, dignity, and recognition as skilled artisans and community members.

Mission: To empower people with disabilities and incarcerated women through ceramic art, creating sustainable income, building skills, and restoring dignity while honoring the legacy of community-driven social impact.

Our Story

Fundación Guadalquivir was founded in 2013 by the Vargas family in honor of Oscar Vargas, a visionary community leader who built Cerámica Guadalquivir into one of Tarija's largest manufacturers. Inspired by his legacy of service, we created a program that employs 100+ people with disabilities and incarcerated women to design, paint, and frame ceramic art.

Our dual-impact model generates income for artisans while supporting rehabilitation and reintegration. Currently based in Tarija, we're expanding nationwide to bring economic dignity to marginalized communities across Bolivia.

His legacy lives on through every ceramic piece created by our artisans, every life transformed by economic opportunity, and every community member empowered to build a better future.

Cerámica Guadalquivir

Cerámica Guadalquivir, founded by Oscar Vargas 50 years ago, continues to thrive as one of Tarija's largest ceramic manufacturers. The company specializes in hand-painted ceramics and decorative tiles, creating products that reflect the region's rich artistic tradition. Today, under the leadership of Oscar's family, Cerámica Guadalquivir remains a testament to his legacy of craftsmanship, innovation, and community commitment. The foundation's mission builds directly on the company's values, transforming the same artistic traditions into economic opportunities for marginalized communities.
